Part 2 - Village PM Is Making Very Interesting Shoes
"Skate shop owners are the first to say, 'You're crazy to start a skateboarding footwear brand.'"
Today we’re continuing our conversation with Bram and Basile of Village PM - see here for Part 1.
Village Psychic: What’s it been like connecting with the skate world as brand owners?
Bram: We grew up close to skateboarding and got a lot of the benefits of being a part of skateboarding. We went on trips, we met people in skate shops, people took us by the hand and showed us around, so to speak. When we were young, so many parts of being within skateboarding's ecosystem helped us grow up.
Basile: It's kind of the fun of part of the job as well. We work all year long with factories, banking issues, all the troubles you can have when starting a company. In the end doing trips with the team and seeing the shoes in clips and photos and expressing ourselves in skateboarding is the reward.
The world is a pretty small place but there’s still a gap between brands that start inside of the U.S. and those that start outside of it. I'm curious to hear what you guys think about that.
Bram: From our point of view we're just from where we are. It only makes sense to do things coming from where we're from and doing them our way. Take Pass~Port for example, they're based in Australia and have their crew of guys around them.
